Elizabethtown sits on I-65, about 45 miles south of downtown Louisville. That puts the city’s airport, hospitals and concerts within reach for a day trip, while daily life stays in a smaller town with shorter errands.

How long is the drive, really?

“40 minutes” is the number you’ll hear, and it’s close for the south side of Louisville on a clear road. Downtown takes longer. Here is what routing shows from the north and south sides of Elizabethtown:

At rush hour (roughly 6:30–9 AM northbound and 3:30–6:30 PM southbound), plan on more than an hour, especially near the I-64/I-71 interchange downtown, known locally as Spaghetti Junction.

Your everyday commute is shorter

Most days, you won’t be driving to Louisville. Elizabethtown workers average about 20 minutes to work, a little less than the Louisville average of 22–24 minutes.

If you work in E-Town, your daily drive is about what it would be inside Louisville. If you commute to Louisville every day, budget 45 minutes to an hour each way.
